Are you miserable in the spring? Experiencing stuffy nose, sneezing, and watery eyes in the fall? If so, there are different types of seasonal allergy remedies available to you.
Most people with allergies have the majority of their problems in the spring. Hay fever is quite rampant during this time. Pollen is the main culprit in this time of year. Grasses and trees release their pollen into the air, and it can travel literally hundreds of miles. Symptoms are often worse on breezy days than rainy days.
Fall can be just as bad for many people. Pollen is still the main problem causer here, but it is ragweed in particular. At least three quarters of all that are bothered by spring pollens are just as irritated by ragweed. Mold is also an issue during this time of year. It grows in the wet leaves that gather in yards. Also, dust mites can gather in your house so be aware when you first start your furnace.
Symptoms of allergies can vary from mild to quite severe. Sneezing and itchy, watery eyes are a major tell. You might also experience congestion and headaches, burning throat, and difficulty breathing. Rashes and irritated skin are also quite common. If you have asthma, allergic reactions can make it worse on your body.
No cure exists for this annoying condition, but your symptoms can be alleviated and controlled through medicines. Antihistimines can cause drowsiness but conquer the histamines that the allergens cause. Decongestants relieve the congestion caused by the allergy. They can increase blood pressure and insomnia. Medicines that combine these two drugs are also on the market. All are found in form of pills, nose sprays, and eye drops. You could also get weekly allergy shots to increase your resistances.
If you wanted, you could employ the use of natural treatments as well. There is an herb known as butterbur that can be taken. It acts much like an antihistamine but without making you so tired. Saline nose sprays are simply salt water, and they help wash out foreign bodies and break up mucous. Foods cooked with pepper, onion, garlic, and ginger can also help drain the sinuses. Acupuncture focuses on the immune system and is known to be effective.
Avoiding triggers and preventing attacks in the first place is the best thing you can do. Keep windows closed to keep out allergens. Clean your air filter quite often. Keep your house as disinfected as possible, but wear a mask when you are cleaning. Be aware that your pets carry and bring in spores as well. Try to stay inside in the bad months. When you do grass cutting or rake leaves, wear a mask again. When you’re done, get a shower and clean clothes as soon as you can.
Allergies can make you completely miserable and be very annoying and hard to live with. Almost anything inside your house or out can be a trigger, especially in certain months. Seasonal allergy relief can be found, though.
