When I was a child we lived in a huge house that had a massive fireplace. My mother was a great interior decorator so after 6 months of a major remodel of the home it was like living in a palace. Everything was so elegant and beautiful. That one was my favorite and I still miss it.
By the fireplace was a formal sitting area where guests would come and talk to my parents. I used to love sitting there with a good book and listening to the crackle of the fire. It was warm, homey and I felt safe. My favorite places to sit were the big comfy couch and the formal wing chair. For some reason that wing chair just made the room. I never sat in it right, I was always swinging my leg over it and slouching my body in weird and more comfortable positions. But it was nice.
That chair has now seen better days thanks to years of abuse and instead of getting rid of it, the thing has been nicely recovered in a slipcover. It’s not one of the main pieces of furniture anymore, it kind of got demoted, but it’s still in use and still makes a room look two steps up from casual.
